Kawana

Kawana is growing rapidly. There is an opportunity for an eastern, faster route or a longer route that connects existing and new employment and economic activity areas. Stage 1 of the light rail would terminate at Kawana, with Stage 2 to continue from Kawana to Caloundra. A suitable location for the terminus of Stage 1 will need to be identified.

Option A – Town Centre Heart and Bokarina Beach
Key characteristics include:

  • Longest of the Kawana route options
  • Provides direct access to the Sunshine Coast Public University Hospital and Health and Knowledge Precinct
  • Supports development of Kawana Town Centre, Business Village, and Bokarina Beach
  • Provides opportunity for integration with a future transport interchange and heavy rail station
  • Has a number of tight turns between the hospital and Nicklin Way, increasing travel time.

Option B – Town Centre West via Health Precinct

  • Aims to improve travel speed compared to Option A
  • Provides direct access to the Sunshine Coast Public University Hospital and Health and Knowledge Precinct
  • Provides seamless interchange with future heavy rail station
